Imphal: The Nagas residing in Manipurโ€™s Tamenglong and Noney districts bordering Assam and Nagaland in the northwestern parts on Saturday started boycotting activities of the Assam Rifles in protest against the alleged โ€œindiscriminate firingโ€ on innocent womenfolk.

This move came after the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM), the apex body of the Rongmei tribe in the region, successfully imposed a six-hour total shutdown in these districts on Friday.

Reportedly, the boycott decision was made in the jurisdictions inhabited by different Naga communities belonging to the Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei, and Inpui Naga.

The RNCM also accused the 6 Assam Rifles of โ€œbringing an atmosphere of fragile peaceโ€ in the area by gun firing into the air to disperse the innocent womenfolk following tussles at Makuai (Atengba) village in Tamenglong district.

The Naga women restricted the movements of the central paramilitary personnel at Chingkao village where village volunteers considering the circumstances faced by other communities in the state were undergoing physical training at around 9 am on Thursday.

Perpetrated by 6 AR as โ€œcrazy, inhuman, selfish and cowardlyโ€, the RNCM stated that being in a democratic country, the security forces should pay respect to the sentiments of the ethnic people.
