Manipur education minister assures to remove “The Kukis” chapter from history book
Responding to the concern raised by social activist, Maheshwar Thounaojam in connection with alleged distorted history in the class 11 syllabus, education minister Basanta Kumar Thounaojam assured to remove the chapter “The Kukis” from the book, ‘History of Manipur’ written by M Kaoba Singh and B Sm Sharma.
Addressing media during a press conference held today at his residence, Keishampat under Imphal West district, Maheshwar alleged that some information relating to the migration of Kuki in Manipur is allegedly misinterpreted in the book ‘History of Manipur’ written by M Kaoba Singh and B Sm Sharma.
He continued and informed that as per the chapter “The Kuki” of this book, it is written that “some Kuki tribal are migrated to Manipur during the pre-historic period”. The said information is completely wrong as Manipur has a written history from 33 AD. On top of this, according to the book “Manipur and Naga Hills (1896) by James Johnstone, it was written that the term Kuki was heard between 1830 and 1840.
Observing the above two facts, it is clearly proved that some portion of class 11 history Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur is wrong. Studying such a syllabus will mislead the future generation, he added while stating his interaction with the education minister to remove the said chapter. Minister also assured to look into the matter said Mahesh.
He also said that the Anglo-Kuki war had never occurred in the history of Manipur. The said fact was also already issued from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs as an RTI reply. Unfortunately, the Anglo-Kuki War is still a part of Delhi University which is very unfortunate and condemnable.
