The CAA seeks to provide citizenship to Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis entering India on or before December 31, 2014 from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Guwahat: The North East Understudies’ Association (NESO) on Sunday denoted the third commemoration of the entry of CAA in Parliament as ‘dark day’ across the locale.

Dark banners and flags were shown in seven northeastern states according to NESO’s call, its counsel Samujjal Bhattacharjya said in a proclamation here.

The All Assam Understudies’ Association (AASU), Nagaland Understudies’ Organization, All Arunachal Pradesh Understudies’ Association, Khasi Understudies’ Association, Garo Understudies’ Association, All Manipur Understudies’ Association, Mizo Zirlai Pawl and Tripura Understudies’ League drove the fights in the states, he said.

In Assam, which was the focal point of the counter CAA fights in 2019, AASU coordinated remembrance gatherings at better places, its leader in-control Utpal Sharma said in another articulation.

He said flower accolades were paid and earthen lights lit in memory of the five individuals who were killed during the tumults a long time back.

“We will not acknowledge the Citizenship (Correction) Act 2019, that is without a doubt. It is against the native individuals. We will proceed with our popularity based and lawful battle,” Sharma said.

The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), an ideological group framed post the 2019 enemy of CAA struggle and headed by previous AASU pioneer Lurinjyoti Gogoi, likewise organized a show in Guwahati.

The party denoted the day as ‘Pratarana Divas’ (day of selling out).

“We need to keep opposing the CAA. Since people with significant influence have the numbers, they can’t force a regulation, which is against individuals,” Gogoi said.
