Nagaland lifts Subroto Cup following 42 years

DIMAPUR: It is after a huge delay of 42 years that Nagaland has brought back the esteemed Subroto Cup.

A school group from Nagaland has won the U17 Subroto Cup competition, last for which was hung on Thursday.

Pioneer Higher Auxiliary School (PHSS) from Dimapur in Nagaland crushed Government Model Higher Optional School (GMHSS) of Chandigarh 1-0 in the last.

The last was played at the Ambedkar Arena in New Delhi on Thursday.

A header in the principal half of additional time by Setungchim guaranteed triumph for the group from Nagaland.

Indian Aviation based armed forces (IAF) boss Air Marshal VR Chaudhari offered the prize to the triumphant group from Nagaland.

The heroes got Rs 3.5 lakh while the other participants got Rs 2 lakh.

The semi-finalists and quarter-finalists were given Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh separately.
